Introducing Urth Atlas

An interactive and community driven map of Urth

Browse the political map and satellite-esque imagery. Measure distances, paths, and areas in true flat-world kilometers and miles plus spherical estimates with near-accurate results. Explore community-submitted places, nations and cities, linked to TEPwiki!

How does it work?

On GitHub when Urth cartographers publish the map update, Urth Imagery (XCF Sync adapter) extracts specific layers, tiles the map images, and exports the images to Urth Atlas in about 20 minutes after updating.

What it doesn’t replace

The official map, map claims and nation registration process. Urth Atlas is a fun tool and will never have the same level of image quality.

Where is my nation name at?

It’s waiting for you to submit it! Keep r e a d…

Layers

There are 4 types of layer groups:

  1. Base
    Political, satellite and blank map
  2. Thematic
Topographic, climate, ocean currents, hydrology and time zones.
  3. Overlays
Scale bar, grid, cities, subnational, community markers, and nation markers. You will also see pixel grid and coordinates, but they are turned off by default.
  4. Markers
Nation, territory, capital, city and town.

Markers

…i n g! Whew, glad you made it! You will need an approved map claim/added to the map and a GitHub account to add/remove markers.

To make the map interactive it requires that the national layer is not exported. Once you have added the markers to the map, they will be grouped into a list with a “submit to map” button that will open a GitHub issue for approval. Don’t forget to link your TEPwiki articles!

Measurements

The measurements are near-accurate estimates and are fine for reference. You will find them in metric, imperial, or both plus a spherical estimate.

For official use (such as on your wiki), please confirm with the official tool.

Location & Search

You can set your own “my location” to your nation’s spot on the map. If a nation, territory, capital, city, or town marker has been added to the map, you will also be able to search for it or if you don’t feel like searching hit the dice and a random place will be selected for you.

You can share a link to the coordinates you are viewing and also embed it as well like the example below.
